You Better Write Creatures in Your Diary by Valeria Aguilera Avila

They’re mystical creatures, living dead, immortal and have a thirst for blood; this monster is known as a vampire. For centuries there have been folklore about vampires, and this sparked up the idea for an entire world of fictional characters. The Vampire Diaries is part of this genre of television series. It was created to capture the eyes of millions of viewers around the globe and has kept its audience for several years.
The Vampire Diaries is a television series that involves the creatures that are vampires, witches, werewolves, and even a mix of both making those hybrids. Admittedly, a vampire wouldn’t be as interesting without a threat to their own kind. These authors created indestructible vampires, but also included a sense of rivalry between vampires and werewolves. This series comes on the CW channel every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and started on September 10, 2009 and is currently on its 6th season when it premiered on February 13, 2014. Furthermore, this show is also based on the book collection of the author L.J. Smith; they are also called the Vampire Diaries. The main characters are, but not limited to, Elena, Damon, Stephen, Jeremy, Bonnie, Caroline, Matt, and Tyler. In addition the plots of these books are formed differently in the television show but still keep its central ideas. The Vampire Diaries is a supernatural drama based series full of romance, conflict, and family values.
There are all types of vampires that exist in the creative side of our minds; some are from the Vampire Diaries others from Twilight to the traditional Dracula. Although people consider these vampires as the same blood thirsty demonized humans, there are significant differences. For instance, Vampire Diaries has a divergent process of becoming a vampire. To start off, the person who will become this creature has to have vampire blood in their system. Then, the person would need to die and then relive. Drinking pure blood after the resurrection will complete the transition. Furthermore, these vampires’ powers and abilities differ from others as well. On the Vampire Diaries every vampire possesses mind compulsion. This gives them the capability to manipulate a non-vampire’s will to control their decisions. Compulsion is a key factor in this series because it is frequently used for the characters to get the truth of a matter or to manipulate someone into doing something for them. It is utilized by mainly all of the characters and also makes the series more original in content and the ideas the director uses. As described, the vampires in Vampire Diaries are unique and exhilarating to watch.
While the vampires are becoming stronger as they get older, their characters also develop throughout the seasons. The formation of the characters and their personalities affect the manner in which the show is perceived since it links with their audience. For instance, in the first season Elena is a timid typical teenage girl who is simply seeking love and then Stephen sparks into her life. Their relationship creates almost perfection but then Elena becomes attached to Damon, Stephen’s brother. It becomes a love triangle filled with tension, lust, and love. The Vampire Diaries demonstrates a climax for the storyline which becomes an intriguing course for the character to grow. Furthermore, in the series there are doppelgangers for Stephen and Elena. One of them is Katherine and she appears in season two and is further shaped into an evident character in the show. Elena starts to differentiate from the characteristics of Katherine and this allows her to develop her choices and her persona. Katherine is narcissistic and basically opposes the disposition of what Elena’s morals are. She has a personality that is difficult to overpass and gives the image that Elena is an individual that is kinder and has compassion. Even though a doppelganger can be the complete opposite image of a person, a non-double character can as well. Damon is developed in two different manners throughout each episode. He is pictured at first as simply a sadistic and psychotic individual. He obliterates any and everything that he dislikes. Although the directors of the Vampire Diaries intended him to act this way, he is strongly growing throughout the 5th and 6th season. Damon and Elena get into a serious relationship and it becomes a significant part in the development of his character. There is an entire transition in the type of person he is first sought out to be. Overall, the Vampire Diaries has the components of allowing its actors to form into their roles on the big screen and gift their viewers with a television series worth watching.

Should you watch Vampire Diaries? Yes, absolutely. If drama and supernatural fiction attracts you then you should watch this show. Not only does it include drama but also  has several themes such as friendships, affairs, the importance of family, and most of all love and the sacrifice that one is willing to do for it. This show deserves the views it receives and several others from the people that haven’t discovered these blood-thirsty monsters that are actually not all sinister. Vampire Diaries is eye-stopping, breath-taking, and will leave you gasping for more blood-sucking drama.
