Technology's Takeover by Alexandra Serrato

Often too frequently, teenagers are blamed for always being into their phones, texting away, and getting too carried away with their social life, but the reality is that not just teens do this, many adults do the same. Technology has run the daily lives of humans today. It seems that the lives of humans have been perhaps too influenced by technology. We are ignoring the obvious question around us: is too much technology bad? Yes, technology has positively influenced and taken over the world in which we live in today, but it is the negative effects of this life-changing event that we try to hide and constantly avoid.
One of the negative sides of technology is that there are so many accidents today that are caused by texting while driving (6 Bad Habits). The highly advanced technology which we are confronted with each day of our lives is so powerful that it is a distraction to us even in occasions that require the best of our attention. The temptation that overpowers one to take their focus off the road and hands off the steering wheel to reply to a quick text jeopardizes the lives of not only the driver, but also those around them. Eventually, this chain reaction leads to a tragic car accident. Some people claim that they take their focus off the road for just a few seconds. Those few seconds can make a great chaos in just a split of those seconds.
Meanwhile having a conversation, it is not rare for one, if not all, members of the conversation to be on their phones texting away (6 Bad Habits). Too much technology can and has been proven to be negatively effective on society. Humans were born with the ability to communicate as the main characteristic of what makes them human. Conversations today are no longer face to face conversations or communication by mailing letters. Instead, the modern-day society in which we live in has changed our way of communication by adopting technology as a way to speak for us. Sending letters by mail for communication is no longer popular the way it was in the 1800s. Now typed words are slowly replacing the hand written, and most importantly the verbal words of which we use for communication. Text conversations through texting or social media, are now the "new way to have a conversation," with the person next to you.
Furthermore, the English language is now being replaced by phonetic spelling and random string of letters (6 Bad Habits). The improper use of spelling and grammar used when texting or communicating via the internet has changed the usage of the English language. Too often people are mistakenly spelling words wrong on their messages. These simple mistakes have influenced the way of writing, because we are progressively becoming used to this new and exciting way of using personally customized spelling in our messages, as a habit. Without knowing we start using our texting language as an everyday language, as if it were completely normal. The common use of English grammar is slowly changing, because as technology progressively develops, the formal and intended use of the language has been modified to the language we use today. Society has accepted the usage of acronyms as a way of saving time. Acronyms, which are faster to type than spell out the actual word, are now replacing many words. What is there for the future, some may ask one another? Soon words will no longer exist and could possibly be replaced by codes used to communicate messages from one another, who knows.

In conclusion, all of these habits have been adjusted to the preferences of society. It is no longer the meaning of the message that is important, it seems today that the matter of time it takes to send the message whether clear or not, is what's most important. The amount of time we spend on our phones is not enough to satisfy society. If it were up to us, it can be assured that the majority of people would dedicate their time and energy to their technological devices. Is too much technology a bad thing? Is your social life more important than spending quality time with your family, or taking the time to just sit back and enjoy your day? Perhaps too much technology may not be as bad as it sounds, or so we tend to see it that way. After all, it's only the beginning of technology and there's much more to explore as it develops.  Perhaps one day we will wake up to a whole new world from which we went to sleep knowing, a whole new atmosphere run by computerized objects.
