2001 World Series by Alejandro Carranza

Bases were loaded and Diamondbacks leftfielder Luis Gonzalez was up next to bat, the Arizona crowd was roaring, the ball was hit singled to left and the run comes in, Diamondbacks win! The 2001 World Series was a battle between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the New York Yankees. Seven games were played and the team that won four out of seven games left home as World Series Champions. Both the Diamondbacks and the Yankees are two strong teams and the battle between them ended with the Arizona Diamondbacks as champions of the 2001 World Series.
It was fall of November 4, 2001 at Chase Field Park in Phoenix, Arizona (ESPN). The biggest game for the Arizona Diamondbacks was about to begin. After six games both the Diamondbacks and the Yankees had three wins and one game was left. The one that won the last game (game seven) would become Champions. It is a major league baseball players dream to win the World Series and an incredible opportunity was in front of these two teams. The first five innings of the game was a battle, no one had scored. The top of the sixth inning went by and still no sign of a run and when the bottom of the sixth came the Diamondbacks had finally stepped up their game with one run batted in.
Furthermore, the seventh and eighth inning was a struggle for the Diamondbacks. The Yankees had scored two runs (ESPN). Many people thought it was the end for the Diamondbacks but in baseball anything can happen. Baseball is a game where big changes can occur at any time and in any inning. The Diamondbacks had struggled in the seventh and eighth inning but it was not over yet.
The last inning (ninth) began with the Yankees batting first. Randy Johnson was the Diamondbacks closing pitcher and the top of the ninth ended with no runs batted in (ESPN). This was the Diamondbacks last chance to get the win and something had to be done in this inning. As the inning was progressing, the Diamondbacks had bases loaded with two outs. Diamondbacks leftfielder Luis Gonzalez was on the plate ready to bat. As the ball came off the Yankees pitcher, Gonzalez hit the ball and singled to left field causing two runs to score (ESPN). It was all over, the Diamondbacks had done it, and they were now the World Series Champions. The Stadium became fire as the Diamondback fans left roaring out celebrating their victory. That day was a memorable day for this team; they had fought seven games and won four out of seven to receive what a baseball players dream was, the World Series title. Winning that title was like winning the lottery for MLB teams because it was something big that everyone wanted. As for the Diamondbacks this was a special and exciting day because this was their first World Series title as well as the first World Series ever played in Arizona (ESPN).
With this win, the Diamondbacks had become one of the first World Series champions from a Western state. They had reached the series in their fourth season, breaking a recorded obtained by the Florida Marlins (ESPN). This day in history was an important day for this Arizona team because they were known as the World Series champions of 2001.
