Review of the Dead by Elijah Hall Crockett

Suddenly Rick wakes up from a coma to find out something strange has happened around but can’t comprehend it just yet and just wants to find his family. The Walking Dead is a series that comes on every Sunday on the AMC channel at 9:00pm. In the beginning it takes place in Atlanta but later moves to Georgia after long traveling for protection. Everyone has been infected with an unknown disease with an unknown cure, which turns people into zombies (referred to as “walkers” by the characters) after they die. The only known way to kill them completely is to either shoot or stab their brain to shut down their body. The main characters that have been in The Walking Dead for all five seasons so far are Rick Grimes, his son Carl Grimes, and Glenn Rhee. There are also other main characters that either die in the first couple of seasons like Rick’s best friend Shane Walsh who he had to kill for being too stubborn and his wife Lori Grimes who got bit and turned into a “walker” or join up with Rick in the later seasons like Daryl Dixon, Carol Peletier, Hershel Greene, Beth Greene, and Maggie Greene who joins Rick later on. That’s what I like about this series because they will make main character side and replace them with other main characters. The Walking Dead creates an appeal to Ethos because it makes you feel attached to the characters and sad when they get hurt or die.

Rick Grimes was a police officer who was involved in a shootout and ended up going into a coma. After he woke up in the hospital, nobody was there. He sees something but doesn’t really know what it is but all he wanted to do was find his wife Lori and his son Carl. He gets outside of the hospital to find that a walker is approaching him but doesn’t know what it is and get saved by a man named Morgan, and his son. Then he splits up with them and ends up in a city that is full of walkers. He then gets saved by Glenn Rhee and he eventually takes him to a camp where his wife and son where unknowingly. There Rick reunites with his family and found out that his best friend Shane fell in love with his wife when he was gone and she ended up being pregnant and didn’t know who the father was. Rick’s group soon traveled to the CDC (center of disease control and prevention) but soon leaves because he was informed that they couldn’t figure out a cure. They move on and eventually end up at a farm. The group settles there for a while and gather more people and supplies and Rick ends up having to kill a corrupt Shane. He then turns into a walker a Carl ends up shooting him which causes a big herd of walkers and the group has to leave the farm because it became full of walkers. The group travels for a while and stumble upon a prison. While they are clearing out the walkers one of them bite Hershel’s ankle and Rick has to amputate his ankle to keep the bite from making him turn. Later on Lori goes into labor and has to get a Caesarean section to get the baby Judith out but it causes Lori to die. While everyone was settled in the Prison Andrea who got left at the farm met a woman named Michonne who helped her survive and they ended up finding a town that provides protection. Michonne didn’t like it there because of “the Governor”, the town’s leader so she left and ended up at the prison while Andrea stayed. The eventually crossed paths and a war took place at the town. Rick’s group won and Andrea died. Later on the Governor joined another group who would end up blowing up the prison with a tank in a battle over the prison. Rick’s group ended up splitting up because of the disaster but soon met with each other at Terminus, a place they kept seeing signs to while they were on the train tracks. Everyone got there except for Beth who was kidnapped. At terminus the group were surprised attacked by people who tried to eat them but the fought them off. The group now left to a church after saving a priest from some walkers and have stayed there while another group that joined up with them left to Washington D.C. because someone said he had a cure to the disease and could save the world.

The Walking Dead has kept me interested because of the suspense it creates through all 5 seasons so far. I recommend this series to everyone because I believe it uses ethos very effectively and will have you creating discussions between your friends and family about it. The Walking Dead has won various awards because of how amazing it is. In 2011 and 2013 it won the AFI Awards for TV Program of the Year, and in 2013 it won the ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards for Top Television Series.
